Slug Generator
Turn text into a URL-safe slug
Turns any text into a URL-friendly slug — lowercase, spaces and punctuation replaced with hyphens — updating live as you type, with a copy button for the result.
How it works
The text is lowercased, trimmed, and every run of characters that isn't a letter or number (in any language/script) is collapsed into a single hyphen, with leading and trailing hyphens removed. Non-Latin letters — Georgian, Cyrillic, and so on — are kept as-is rather than transliterated into Latin characters.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't it transliterate Georgian or other non-Latin text into Latin letters?
There's no single standard way to romanize Georgian (Mkhedruli) script, and stripping non-Latin characters entirely would often leave an empty or near-meaningless slug. Modern browsers and URLs handle non-Latin characters fine, so keeping the original script is more useful than a lossy guess at transliteration.
Why is my slug empty?
If the input has no letters or numbers at all — only punctuation, symbols, or whitespace — there's nothing left to build a slug from, so you'll see a message explaining that instead of a blank result.
What happens to numbers in my text?
Numbers are treated the same as letters — kept as-is, just lowercased where applicable (which has no visible effect on digits) and separated by hyphens like everything else.
Does it remove duplicate hyphens if my text has multiple spaces or symbols in a row?
Yes — any run of one or more non-letter, non-number characters collapses into a single hyphen, so "hello world!!!" becomes "hello-world", not a slug full of repeated dashes.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No — slug generation is a simple text transformation that runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
