HEIC is the photo format iPhones save by default since iOS 11, and a lot of non-Apple software — older editors, most Windows tools, many websites — can't open it. This tool decodes the HEIC file in your browser and re-encodes it as a standard JPEG you can open, edit, or upload anywhere.

How it works

Your browser reads the HEIC file directly, corrects the photo's orientation using its embedded EXIF rotation tag (so it comes out right-side-up even if the original stores it sideways), and re-encodes the pixels as a JPEG. None of this touches a server — it all happens locally in the tab you're looking at.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole conversion — decoding, orientation correction, and re-encoding — runs in your browser using JavaScript and the Canvas API. The file never leaves your device.

What's the file size limit?

Up to 50MB per photo. That's generous for a single HEIC photo (even high-resolution iPhone photos are usually a few MB), but a HEIC image sequence like a Live Photo could come closer to that limit.

Does it work with HEIF files too, not just HEIC?

Yes — HEIC and HEIF are the same underlying format family (HEIF is the general container, HEIC is Apple's specific flavor of it), and both are accepted.

Why did it reject my file even though it's named .heic?

The tool checks the actual file content, not just the filename extension, so a renamed file that isn't really HEIC is rejected with a clear error rather than silently producing a broken JPEG.

Will the output look the same as the original?

Visually yes — JPEG uses lossy compression, so there's a very small quality trade-off versus the original HEIC, but at default settings it's not something you'd notice by eye.
