Image to Text (OCR)
Extract text from a photo or scanned image
Extracts text from a photo or scanned image — useful for pulling text out of screenshots, scanned documents, receipts, or signs — using on-device optical character recognition, with support for both English and Georgian.
How it works
The tool runs Tesseract.js, an open-source OCR engine compiled to WebAssembly, entirely inside your browser tab. It downloads the trained-data model for whichever language you select, analyzes the image locally, and returns the recognized text with a live progress indicator while it works — no image or text is sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is it?
It depends heavily on image quality — clean, high-contrast, well-lit text in a normal font recognizes very well, while blurry photos, handwriting, or unusual fonts will produce more mistakes. Always review the extracted text before relying on it.
Is Georgian recognition as accurate as English?
Georgian recognition is currently in beta and can be noticeably less accurate than English, particularly for certain letters — check the output carefully rather than assuming it's correct.
What's the size limit?
100MB per image, covering even large scanned pages or high-resolution photos.
Does this upload my image anywhere?
No — the OCR engine runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly. Your image and the resulting text never leave your device.
Why is it slow the first time I use it?
The first run for a given language needs to download that language's trained-data model to your browser. After that, your browser caches it, so later uses are faster.
